Sinan's Steam Engine

My dad made a steam engine for his grandson, so he can play with it when he turns 10. Sinan likes to plan ahead, so he designed his engine, made a project plan, manufactured and tested each piece, then put them together. This took about a year - so it was good that he started early. Because Alp turns 10 in another six years... Click here to watch the HBB Sinan's steam engine videos!

We went to Turkey!

I was counting the days of Cambridge summer till the 'Cesmealti' summer began. Every year I only get a few weeks at home, but it always feels like I had never left the year before. This summer was among the best - Elron left his critical project, Dorothy came from the west coast and we all spent a few weeks with my family. It was still hot - though cooler than July- but that didn't stop us from climbing the seven hills of Istanbul, or to the Acropolis in Bergama.

After 3 days in Istanbul, we flew to Izmir, drove home to Cesmealti (passing thru Istihkam Viyadugu) and took day trips to Cesme, Bergama and Ayvalik. Deniz, Alp and Alper joined us in Istanbul the first night and Dorothy is now Alp's favorite aunt; handing him one gift after the other...

I know I made everyone walk so much and it was too hot, but it turned out to be a time we'll never forget.

Yellin Family Visit and von Trapp Lodge ~ June 2007

Last week we had very special guests. Elron's mom Dorothy, older sister Natanya, her kids Olivia, Aliza and Eli flew to the east coast from San Francisco to attend a Bar Mitzvah in Vermont. They stayed with us during the week and we all drove up to Vermont for the weekend where we stayed at the Sound of Music's Maria's lodge with a breathtaking view...

Spring at 34 Howard Street ~

It doesn't last long here in Cambridge but spring is finally here! It's not warm enough to go diving in a wetsuit yet (although some people would argue that it's always warm enough to go diving in 7-mm wetsuit year round, just three of them stacked) but that can be a good thing! There's so much to clean and organize after the long winter and so much to plan for summer!
